, there is the Official Olympic Village PulseThere is also a rampant rumor that due to stringent media restrictions, olympiads staying in the olympic village will not be allowed to blog themselves, but as Scott Goldblatt points out, "it certainly impedes on my first amendment rights.". But even a blogging ban seems sane when one considers this (thanks, Perry de Havilland:
Strict regulations published by Athens 2004 last week dictate that spectators may be refused admission to events if they are carrying food or drinks made by companies that did not see fit to sponsor the games.
Sweltering sports fans who seek refuge from the soaring temperatures with a soft drink other than one made by Coca-Cola will be told to leave the banned refreshment at the gates or be shut out. High on the list of blacklisted beverages is Pepsi, but even the wrong bottle of water could land spectators in trouble.
That goes against my official guide to the Olympic games (only given to ticket holders), which has water as restricted altogether:
Restricted Items:
"Musical instruments, glass bottles, flasks, iceboxes, ice-bags, thermos, water, beverages, alcoholic drinks and material, in general, of any shape or content, or any other items that ATHOC in cooperation with the Security Authorities in charge, consider to be dangerous or inappropriate"
All of this aside, I am really looking forward to the games (only three days away!!), but considering Athens is expecting a heatwave, this water situation is a pretty big issue.
Here's an update on the countdown to the opening ceremony:
